This is something I feel I never would have to do, but sometimes you have to take a step back and take stock. Several hundred posts have been retired. However please note this is purely a temporary situation. I shall go back and review each post individually and then decide if it can be republished or if it needs to be frozen in time for an undetermined hiatus. My preference would be not edit any historical post and republish if I feel it totally necessary.
When I started blogging twenty-three years ago – I could never see myself retiring blog posts, I just thought once they were out there in the interweb they would kick around forever. Forever in perpetuality. However, following recent events, I thought it best to take a big step back leap, take stock and reconsider. Yes, that does mean reviewing (and re-reviewing) almost twenty years worth of material. Rather than rush into a decision – I thought it best to take down, even if only temporarily 200 blog posts. I need time and space to review each one individually and on its own merit and then make a long-term decision. Should I republish (with more edits than Winston Smith from 1984) or just place a large number of posts into a long-term hiatus? 320 odd posts are affected and some may return sooner than others. Ultimately, this is my blog and it is my decision on what I decide to publish what remains and what falls by the wayside.
With over thirteen thousand photos over on Flickr – I need to spend a weekend (or three) reviewing those albums and checking what should be kept public and what could be moved to private. However long term I am considering my options for online photograph storage and may look at self hosting in the next twelve months with a limited curated gallery available online for the general public. Watch this space.
